This Sunday is the conclusion to a year-long emphasis on Real Faith. We began in August 2016 with a sermon series on the words of Jesus from the Sermon on the Mount and continued through the new year with a series on David and his life of faith.

Two songs were written especially for our church and this sermon series by Nashville Singer/songwriter Andrew Greer and FBC’s Dr. Tom Jenkins. We’ll share them both in this service.

Real Faith

I want a faith that lives the improbable
I want a hope that believes the incredible
I want to live with a heart that’s open to see
I want a faith that runs the race unstoppable
I want to walk right through the impossible
Standin’ strong with God, whatever will be….

I want to soar to the highest heights
I’m gonna dive to the deepest depths of your love
Not even life, death, heaven or hell
Could ever take us away,
away from your love
Real faith, real faith, real faith!

Let It Be (This We Pray)

Here we gather, in your name
Hearts wide open, seek your face
Trusting in your will be done
Teach us of your kingdom come

Words of blessing, words of life
Peace and mercy, salt and light
Turn our eyes to heaven’s way
Yours the power, this we pray

Speak your peace
Share your grace
Show your love
Let’s it be, this we pray, Let it be.

Blessed be Your Name & Great is Thy Faithfulness

These two songs were written 80 years apart, yet their statements about God’s faith still ring with amazing consistency. Truly, ‘Thou changest not, Thy compassions they fail not’. No matter what the situation of our life may currently be, we can, with the songwriters, claim His great faithfulness and are enabled to shout, “Blessed Be Your Name!”

Matt Redman, author of Blessed be Your Name

Blessed be Your Name
Blessed be Your name in the land that is plentiful,
where Your streams of abundance flow,
blessed be Your name.
Blessed be Your name when I’m found in the desert place,
though I walk through the wilderness,
Blessed be Your Name.

Great is Thy Faithfulness
Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today, and bright hope for tomorrow
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside.

Thomas Chisholm, author of Great is Thy Faithfulness

Great is Thy faithfulness!Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me!

Sweet Hour of Prayer Medley

We pause a moment in our service and rest in the presence of our caring Heavenly Father. Great is His faithfulness! I John 1:9 reminds us that “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” He is faithful! The medley contains Sweet Hour of Prayer, I Need Thee Every Hour, Just As I Am and Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus. So many beautiful devotional thoughts! Our goal should be to enter a daily moment of prayer, confess our need for our Savior, commit ourselves daily to His will and to fix our eyes on Jesus the author and perfecter of our faith,  Real Faith.

Sweet hour of prayer, sweet hour of prayer
That calls me from a world of care
And bids me at my Father’s throne
Make all my wants and wishes known

In seasons of distress and grief
My soul has often found relief
And oft escaped the tempter’s snare
By Thy return, sweet hour of prayer

I need Thee every hour, most gracious Lord
No tender voice like Thine can peace afford
I need Thee, Oh, I need thee
Oh bless me now my Savior, I come to Thee

Just as I am without one plea
But that Thy blood was shed for me
And that Thou bidst me come to Thee
O Lamb of God I come, I come

Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in His Wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace
